Cambodia Gambling Dens
Monday, 5. January 2009
There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that features a number of amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
