Cambodia Gambling Dens
Wednesday, 19. February 2020
There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries in addition to the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
