Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is banned. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains many comforts accompanying the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
