There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that features a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
